Ascension Cathedral, Izium

Ascension Cathedral is an Orthodox church in Izium featuring traditional Ukrainian architectural elements with white walls and golden domes. The stone building rises from the right bank of the Seversky Donets River and showcases the characteristic design of this religious tradition.

The building was constructed in 1826 to replace an older riverside church that had fallen into disrepair. It became the primary religious center for Orthodox Christians across the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine.

The cathedral holds a revered icon of the Mother of God Peschanskaya that draws pilgrims seeking spiritual connection. Visitors come to pray and pay respects within the sacred space where this religious treasure is displayed.

The church can be accessed at Moskovska Street 30, where it opens daily to visitors. Those wishing to stay longer will find guest accommodations in the adjacent facilities nearby.

Next to the church flows a natural spring called Kirichenkova Krynica that local residents value for its healing properties. Many visitors draw water from this source during their visit.
