Kosivskyi Huk, Mountain waterfall near Kosiv, Ukraine.
Kosivskyi Huk is a waterfall in the Carpathians where water drops over granite rocks with a strong roaring sound. The surrounding area is forest, and the waterfall forms a small cascade within the mountainous landscape.
This waterfall was formed through natural processes that began with floods in the region after World War Two. Those floods changed the rock formations and created the waterfall structure visible today.
The name Huk comes from Ukrainian and refers to the loud roaring sound that falling water makes in this part of the region.
The site is accessible year-round via a marked trail from Kosiv, making visits possible in any season. Winter visits offer the chance to see frozen water formations, which creates a different experience.
During spring floods, water volume increases dramatically and creates multiple channels flowing down the rock face. These shifting patterns only appear at certain times of year, making each flood season different.
