Lisnyky zakaznyk

Lisnyky zakaznyk is a botanical reserve near Kyiv covering varied habitats with ancient oak trees and large wetland complexes. The site contains natural lakes and marshy areas that support specialized plant and animal communities adapted to wet conditions.

The reserve was established in 1989 as part of efforts to protect natural areas around the capital and preserve the region's ecological systems. This protection came as authorities recognized the importance of safeguarding forests and wetlands from development.

Scientists and researchers from Kyiv regularly conduct studies in the reserve to document the native plant species and monitor environmental changes.

The reserve is accessible through walking paths from entry points along the eastern boundary of Holosiivskyi district. Plan to arrive early in the day when conditions are best for exploring the forested and wetland areas.

Some oak trees in the reserve are several centuries old, representing living connections to the region's forest history. These ancient trees provide visible evidence of how the landscape has developed over long periods.
