Great Khodosivka hill fort, Archaeological settlement near Khodosivka, Ukraine.
The Great Khodosivka hill fort is an ancient fortified settlement in Kyiv Oblast, situated on a raised plateau and surrounded by defensive earth ramparts. The enclosed settlement contains remains of dwellings and storage areas that lie beneath the current ground level.
The settlement developed during the early Iron Age and was occupied when classical Greece was flourishing in the Mediterranean. Systematic archaeological investigations starting in the mid-20th century revealed how this community functioned as a regional center.
Archaeological findings include local pottery, bronze artifacts, iron tools, and animal remains that indicate a farming community focused on horse breeding.
The site has three access routes through the earth ramparts positioned at different compass directions around the perimeter. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and can become slippery in wet conditions.
Pottery and metal goods discovered here show surprising trade connections to distant colonies across maritime routes. These objects suggest the residents participated in commercial networks that extended far beyond the local region.
