Kyiv Oblast, Administrative region in north-central Ukraine.
Kyiv Oblast is an administrative region in north-central Ukraine that stretches across both banks of the Dnipro River. The territory includes forests, rivers, and several cities, with Bila Tserkva being the largest among them.
The region was established in February 1932 as an administrative unit during the Soviet era. Before that, the territories belonged to the Kiev Voivodeship and the later Kiev Governorate.
The name refers to Kyiv, which has served as a reference point for the surrounding territories for centuries. Visitors today can see churches, monasteries and folk museums that reflect rural building styles and religious practices rooted in the area.
The region is divided into several administrative districts, with Bila Tserkva being the largest city and Kyiv serving as the administrative center. Visitors planning to explore the area should check current access restrictions and safety guidelines, as some zones are not freely accessible.
The northern part includes the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, where access has been restricted since the reactor accident of 1986. The zone now attracts visitors who want to see the abandoned area through organized tours.
