Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Technical university in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is a technical university in Kyiv, Ukraine, comprising nineteen faculties and ten research institutes spread across a large campus. The facility features modern laboratories for research in fields such as energy, telecommunications, computer science, and applied physics.
The university was founded in 1898 as Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with four departments and 360 students, part of the industrial development of the late 19th century in the region. The institution survived two world wars, expanded during the Soviet period, and received its current name in 2016.
The name honors Igor Sikorsky, an alumnus from 1908 who later developed the modern helicopter, and his legacy lives on today through academic programs in aviation engineering and mechanical design. Students traditionally organize an annual technology festival on the main campus, where projects in robotics and renewable energy are presented to the public.
Visitors can move freely through the public pathways of the campus, though some areas and buildings are reserved for academic staff and enrolled students. Most buildings and laboratories are accessible during weekdays in semester time, when classes and research activities take place.
Alumni include aerospace engineer Serhiy Korolyov, who led Soviet space programs, and several winners of international engineering competitions. The library holds over two million volumes, including rare technical manuscripts from the early 20th century.
