The building at 33 Olesia Honchara Street is a medical structure in the Art Deco style with an asymmetrical floor plan. The facade displays decorative elements throughout, including flowers, animals, snakes, and female figures that shape its distinctive appearance.
Doctor Makovsky founded a surgical hospital in this building in 1910, which quickly became a noted medical facility. Russian Prime Minister Stolypin came here for treatment in 1911 following an assassination attempt.
The building now hosts the Ukrainian Small Drama Theater, which stages performances in an intimate venue that draws locals and visitors together. Its decorative facade with animal and plant motifs creates a distinctive character that visitors notice immediately upon arrival.
The building sits in a central area of Kyiv and can be easily located by walking along Olesia Honchara Street. The facade with its many details is clearly visible from the street and easy to photograph.
