Edinburgh Airport, International airport in Turnhouse, Scotland
Edinburgh Airport is an international facility in Turnhouse near the Scottish capital with two passenger terminals. These buildings offer zones for check-in, security screening and baggage collection spread across different levels.
The airfield opened in 1916 as Turnhouse Aerodrome and served the Royal Air Force during both world wars. After 1945 the site shifted to civilian flights and gradually expanded over the following decades.
Inside the terminal halls hang paintings by Scottish artists and rotating displays show crafts from across the region. These artworks remind travelers they are arriving in or departing from Scotland.
From central Edinburgh the site takes around 30 minutes by Airlink Express bus or tram. Short-term and long-stay car parks sit close to the terminals for drivers.
A viewing area beside the runways lets visitors watch aircraft take off and land. Information boards there explain aviation procedures and show how the facility operates each day.
