Dinas Emrys, Archaeological site and castle ruins in Snowdonia, Wales
The stone fortifications encircle an area of 10,000 square meters with walls measuring between 2.5 and 3 meters in thickness on a hilltop near Beddgelert.
Excavations in 1910 and 1954 revealed multiple periods of habitation, including an Iron Age settlement and a medieval tower built during the 12th century.
The site holds significance in Welsh mythology as the location where Merlin explained to Vortigern about the red and white dragons battling beneath the fortress.
Visitors can reach the site by following hiking trails through Snowdonia National Park, with the nearest parking available at the Glaslyn River valley.
The fortress contains a hidden pool where, according to medieval literature, King Lludd captured two dragons that were causing disturbances across Britain.
