Winchester Cathedral, Anglican cathedral in Winchester, England
The cathedral stretches 558 feet in length, featuring Norman architecture with Gothic elements, including intricate stone vaults and decorated ceilings.
Construction started in 1079 under Bishop Walkelin, replacing the Old Minster, and continued through various modifications until its completion in 1532.
The north aisle contains the grave of writer Jane Austen, marked by a memorial brass plaque and two information windows about her life.
The cathedral welcomes visitors daily from 9am to 5pm Monday through Saturday and from 12:30pm to 3pm on Sundays, with guided tours available.
Deep-sea diver William Walker worked underwater for six years to replace the foundations, placing concrete bags beneath the building to prevent collapse.
