Esher is a town in the Elmbridge borough of Surrey, located about 14 miles southwest of London near the River Mole. The settlement combines residential neighborhoods with green spaces and sits between the M25 motorway and the Thames valley.
The settlement appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Aissela and belonged to the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Normandy. Over the centuries, the place developed into a residence for nobles and later became a favored suburb for Londoners.
The Everyman Cinema operates four screens in Esher's center, presenting films while the Sandown Park Racecourse hosts regular equestrian competitions throughout the year.
The railway station offers direct connections to London Waterloo and allows regular trips into the capital. The High Street runs through the center and leads to shops, cafes, and local facilities.
The Claremont estate was built for Clive of India and later used by Queen Victoria. Sandown Park racecourse has held horse racing events since opening in 1875.
