Exeter College, College of the University of Oxford, England
Exeter College stands on Turl Street and consists of several Gothic stone buildings with pointed windows and towers around a central courtyard. The chapel rises with its tall tower above the other structures and borders the cobbled lanes of the old town.
A bishop from the southwest founded this institution in the early 14th century for the training of clergy. In the 19th century most medieval buildings were demolished and replaced with new Gothic structures.
The chapel carries the founder bishop's name and displays elaborate stained glass windows with saint figures in Victorian style. Every day students and visitors come to sit quietly under the high vaulted ceiling.
Access is possible during the day between 9 AM and 5 PM and adults pay £3 admission while children under twelve enter free. Those who want to view the rooms quietly should choose morning hours when fewer tour groups are around.
In the garden behind the buildings stands a small medieval tower that survived as the only part of the original complex. From there you look directly at the dome of the Radcliffe Camera and the surrounding historic squares.
