Highbury Stadium, Football venue in Fleetwood, England
Highbury Stadium is a football ground in Fleetwood with four stand sections: the Memorial Stand, Parkside Stand, Percy Ronson Stand, and Highbury Stand, with a capacity of around 5,300 spectators. The layout provides clear views of the pitch from all sides of the ground.
The stadium opened in 1939 when Fleetwood Town Football Club relocated from their previous grounds near the North Euston Hotel. This move marked the start of the club's long history at this location.
The Memorial Stand honors local fishermen lost at sea and soldiers, reflecting the maritime heritage of this Lancashire coastal community. Walking through the ground, visitors encounter this connection to the town's seafaring past.
The ground is accessible by train to Blackpool North station, then by the number 1 bus service directly to Fleetwood. Walking from the station takes about 20 minutes, or visitors can use the bus to reach the stadium more quickly.
From 1948 to 1952, the ground hosted motorcycle speedway racing for the Fleetwood Flyers, a use that required major modifications to the surface. Traces of these changes remain visible in parts of the ground today.
