Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town in Warwickshire, England, where the River Avon flows through and numerous Tudor-style buildings, medieval structures, and timbered houses line the streets. The historic core spreads around Henley Street and Chapel Lane, where shops, residences, and public buildings from different centuries stand side by side.

The settlement received its market charter in 1196 from King Richard I, evolving from a village into a center for wool trade and tanning. During the 16th century, it became known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, which greatly shaped its later development as a tourist destination.

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre present classical performances throughout the year, maintaining the theatrical traditions. Many locals and visitors stroll along the riverside, where street musicians and boat travelers often animate the town during warmer months.

Several direct trains connect London Marylebone station to Stratford-upon-Avon, with the journey taking approximately two hours through the countryside. Most attractions lie within walking distance from the railway station or the town center, and the narrow lanes are best explored on foot.

The Shakespeare Distillery produces spirits using Tudor-period methods and local botanicals, offering visitors production demonstrations and tasting sessions. Few people know that beneath the Holy Trinity Church lies a medieval underground chapel, usually hidden from visitors.
