Egham, Historical town in Runnymede, England
Egham is a town situated along the River Thames in Surrey, featuring a mix of Victorian and contemporary buildings throughout its streets. The town center clusters around Queen's Road, where shops, cafes, and residences from different periods sit side by side.
The settlement was first recorded in writing in the year 666 and appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Egeham under the control of Chertsey Abbey. Over centuries, the area grew as a trading point on the Thames and developed significantly during the Victorian period.
The Egham Royal Show brings together agricultural displays, local crafts, and community performances each August in the town center.
The railway station offers direct train connections to nearby towns and central London, with regular services throughout the day. The town center is walkable and well signposted, with paved pavements and some wheelchair ramps on the main roads.
The Air Forces Memorial on Cooper's Hill honors thousands of Commonwealth air force personnel who died in the Second World War. The monument sits on a hilltop above the Thames valley, offering wide views across the landscape.
