Runnymede is a borough district in Surrey that spreads across residential neighborhoods and water meadows along the River Thames. The area includes several communities, with Addlestone serving as its administrative hub.
The district was created in 1974 from the merger of the urban districts of Chertsey and Egham. It gained borough status in 1978.
Runnymede maintains international connections through town twinning partnerships with Bergisch Gladbach in Germany, Herndon in Virginia, and Joinville-le-Pont in France.
The M25 motorway gives direct access through junctions at Chertsey and Egham. South Western Railway provides regular train connections throughout the area.
With a GDP per capita of £87,277, Runnymede ranks as the sixth wealthiest borough in the United Kingdom and the wealthiest outside London.
