Mercer County, County seat in western Ohio, United States
The territory spans 473 square miles of predominantly agricultural land across the western border of Ohio, intersected by the Wabash and St. Marys rivers.
The county, established in 1820 and organized in 1824, received its name from Hugh Mercer, a military officer who served during the American Revolutionary War.
German immigrant farming families settled in Mercer County during the mid-1800s, establishing agricultural traditions that continue to influence the local community.
The county administration operates through a three-member Board of County Commissioners who manage various departments and oversee public services for 42,528 residents.
Beaver Creek, measuring 19.7 miles in length, divides into two sections following the construction of Grand Lake, creating distinct water features within the county.
