Waynesboro, Independent city in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, US.

Waynesboro is an independent city in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, positioned at roughly 1,300 feet (400 m) elevation where major hiking trails and scenic drives converge. The South River runs through its center, creating focal points for outdoor recreation.

The area took its current name from General Anthony Wayne following his 1794 victory at Fallen Timbers. The town later developed as a rail hub and manufacturing center in the region.

The Wayne Theatre hosts regular performances while the Virginia Street Arts Festival decorates buildings throughout downtown with artwork. These installations reflect the community's commitment to local arts and creativity.

Visitors can easily access river activities like trout fishing and paddling with multiple entry points along the South River. A car is helpful for reaching the various trails and scenic drives in the surrounding area efficiently.

The Blue Ridge Tunnel, built in the 1850s as the longest railroad tunnel in the United States, now serves as a walking and cycling path. The tunnel creates a cool passage through the mountain and lets visitors experience a remarkable piece of rail history.
