Stewart County, County in northwestern Tennessee, US.

Stewart County extends over 493 square miles of land, featuring the Cumberland River and multiple water bodies covering 34 square miles of its territory.

The county originated in 1803 from a portion of Montgomery County, named after Duncan Stewart, an early settler and state legislator in Tennessee.

North Carolinian settlers established the initial communities in 1795 after receiving military grants for land tracts following the Continental War.

The county seat of Dover provides governmental services, with administrative offices operating on Central Time Zone schedule throughout the year.

Federal and state agencies maintain control of 44 percent of Stewart County's total land area, influencing local development and conservation efforts.
