Jefferson Market building, Gothic Revival library building in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, United States.
The Jefferson Market Library features a 100-foot tower, leaded glass windows, steeply sloping roofs, and Venetian Gothic architectural details throughout the structure.
The building served as the Third Judicial District Courthouse from 1877 to 1945, hosting notable trials including Harry K. Thaw and Mae West cases.
The structure transformed from a courthouse into a public library in 1967, marking an early example of architectural preservation in the United States.
Located at 425 Avenue of the Americas, the library operates Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM with extended hours until 8 PM on certain days.
The restored bell in the tower, known as Ol' Jeff, rings hourly from 9 AM to 10 PM across Greenwich Village neighborhood.
