Elmwood Park is a residential borough in Bergen County in northern New Jersey, situated along the Passaic River valley. The municipality lies roughly 14 miles west of New York City and connects to major highways including Route 4, Interstate 80, and the Garden State Parkway.
The area was established as an independent borough from Saddle River Township in 1916 and was renamed Elmwood Park in 1973. This name change from East Paterson reflected a shift in the community's identity as it continued to grow.
