The Paterson Armory was a National Guard facility located in Paterson, New Jersey, spanning approximately 53,800 square feet. The structure featured thick stone walls and crenellated towers positioned at each corner.
The cornerstone was laid in 1894, making it New Jersey's first armory established under 1889 legislation. It served military operations for decades until closure in 1983.
This facility served as a gathering place where the community came together for sports, circuses, concerts, and boxing matches. It held a central role in the city's social life and entertainment throughout its operational years.
The site is no longer publicly accessible as the building sustained severe fire damage in 2015. Selected architectural elements have been preserved and relocated to the Paterson Museum for viewing.
Beyond military operations, the facility served as emergency shelter for residents during severe weather events. This dual role made it integral to the city's emergency response infrastructure.
