Lambert Castle

Lambert Castle is a four-story stone structure with medieval revival architecture situated on the Garret Mountain Reservation. The walls use sandstone and granite quarried from the surrounding hills, and the interior rooms have been converted to display museum collections.

A silk industry magnate built the structure in the late 1800s and named it to honor someone close to him. The building later became a center for preserving local history and has served in that role ever since.

The castle carries its builder's name and is now a place where visitors can explore the history of the local silk industry and its impact on the region. The displays show how this industry shaped daily life and the community's growth.

The site is open on multiple days each week with afternoon hours, and these hours extend during the warmer months. Plan to wear comfortable shoes since the location sits on hilly terrain with walking paths through the reservation.

A prominent American leader visited the castle in the late 1800s and was struck by the extensive art collection on display inside. He compared the collection to a famous European museum, giving it an unexpected compliment.
