Puente Blanco, Historic railway bridge in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico.
The Puente Blanco stretches across the Quebrada Mala Canyon, featuring a white concrete deck arch design that rises one hundred and fifty feet above the gorge.
Built in 1922 by the American Railroad Company, this bridge replaced a 1907 steel structure as part of Puerto Rico's expanding railway network connecting different regions.
The engineering work of Etienne Totti from Yauco demonstrates the technical capabilities of Puerto Rican professionals in the early twentieth century railway development.
The bridge structure maintains sufficient strength to support two locomotives of 84 tons each, while providing a clear passage for traffic underneath.
The reinforced concrete construction makes it the highest bridge of its type in Puerto Rico, spanning thirty-six meters across the canyon.
