731 Lexington Avenue, Postmodern skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, US
731 Lexington Avenue is a modern office tower in Midtown Manhattan that rises 55 stories and reaches approximately 246 meters in height. The structure features a glass curtain wall that defines its entire exterior appearance.
The building was constructed after demolishing the historic Alexander's department store, beginning in 2001 and opening to the public in 2004. It was designed as the headquarters for a major financial company.
The building connects two city blocks by allowing pedestrians to walk through its interior space between 58th and 59th Streets. This public passage has become part of the neighborhood's daily flow.
The building is easily accessible by public transportation and sits in a well-connected part of the city. Visitors can freely explore the public atrium and the interior passages within.
Inside are open workspaces and television studios framed by extensive glass walls, making the daily operations visible to passersby. This transparency allows visitors to observe the work happening within.
