Hinsdale is a village in the western suburbs of Chicago, spreading across portions of Cook County and DuPage County in Illinois. The settlement covers roughly five square miles of residential neighborhoods, parks, and a compact downtown area.
The settlement received its incorporation charter in April 1873 after growing from a small railroad stop. The community expanded over the following decades as rail connections between Chicago and western areas brought new residents.
The National Register Historic District in downtown preserves numerous original commercial buildings, connecting current residents to the village's architectural legacy.
Katherine Legge Memorial Park offers about 52 acres of green space with sports fields and play areas for families. The park sits south of the downtown core and can be reached by local roads.
The hospital UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale is the only teaching facility in DuPage County and has run medical training programs since the early 20th century. The facility sits west of the downtown area in a quiet residential section.
