Culinary Institute of America, Culinary education center in Hyde Park, US
The Culinary Institute of America is a cooking school in Hyde Park on the eastern coast of the United States. The campus spreads over 170 acres along the river and includes teaching kitchens, bakeshops, and restaurants for training.
Frances L. Roth and Katharine C. Angell founded the New Haven Restaurant Institute in 1946 to train cooks. The institution moved to Hyde Park in 1970 and has since expanded its offerings into a complete higher education program.
Roth Hall houses three restaurants where students cook and serve meals while guests watch their progress in real kitchen settings. The staff includes American Culinary Federation Certified Master Chefs who teach their craft directly at the stove.
The campus sits on the eastern bank of the Hudson River about 2 hours north of New York City with views of the Catskill Mountains. Visitors can reserve a table at the restaurants or visit the Conrad N. Hilton Library with over 86,000 print volumes.
Every dormitory includes a fully equipped kitchen so students can practice and experiment outside class hours. These facilities allow them to try recipes without supervision in a private setting.
