Conway Scenic Railroad, Heritage railway in North Conway, United States.
Conway Scenic Railroad runs old steam and diesel locomotives through the White Mountains of New Hampshire along historic routes built in the 1800s. The trains travel from the Victorian station in North Conway to different mountain destinations, using passenger cars from different periods of American railroad history.
The railway lines were built starting in 1870 to carry lumber from the mountains and bring summer visitors to resort towns. The tourist operation began in 1974 after regular passenger service had ended several years earlier.
The North Conway Victorian station, registered as a National Historic Place, maintains original architectural features and exhibits railroad memorabilia from past centuries.
The Valley Train runs a shorter route through the valley, while the Mountaineer offers longer trips through Crawford Notch. Both trains depart from the historic station in North Conway, where visitors can purchase tickets and explore the old railcars on display.
In recent years the winter train has returned to regular service through Crawford Notch, marking the first recurring winter season on this route in over 60 years. The snow-covered mountains and frozen waterfalls along the tracks look completely different from the summer scenery.
