Shippensburg, Colonial borough in Cumberland Valley, Pennsylvania, US
Shippensburg spans across Cumberland and Franklin counties, situated 41 miles southwest of Harrisburg with Gum Run flowing through its center point.
The settlement began in 1730 when twelve Scots-Irish families established homes along Burd's Run, making it the oldest community in Cumberland Valley.
The borough maintains strong educational ties through Shippensburg University, which has shaped regional learning since its establishment as a normal school in 1871.
The Shippensburg Community Fair in July stands as Pennsylvania's largest bi-county fair, drawing thousands of visitors to the Cumberland Valley region.
Archaeological excavations on Burd Street revealed the location of Fort Morris, uncovering pottery and musket parts from the French and Indian War period.
