Shippensburg, Colonial borough in Cumberland Valley, Pennsylvania, US

Shippensburg is a borough that spans across Cumberland and Franklin counties, located about 41 miles (66 kilometers) southwest of Harrisburg. Gum Run flows through the center of the community, forming a natural waterway through the area.

The settlement was founded in 1730 when twelve Scots-Irish families established homes along Burd's Run. This makes it the oldest community in the Cumberland Valley.

The borough maintains strong educational ties through Shippensburg University, which has shaped regional learning since its establishment as a normal school in 1871.

The July Community Fair draws thousands of visitors to the area as one of the largest two-county events in Pennsylvania. This event offers a good opportunity to experience local life and traditions.

Archaeological digs on Burd Street uncovered the remains of Fort Morris, revealing pottery and musket parts from the French and Indian War era. These discoveries show the region's early military history.
