Peekskill meteorite, Space rock fragment in Peekskill, New York, US
The Peekskill meteorite fragment, weighing 12.4 kilograms and measuring 30 centimeters in diameter, contains significant amounts of nickel-iron material.
On October 9, 1992, multiple video recordings captured the meteorite's descent across several states before its impact in Peekskill, New York.
The meteorite and the red Chevrolet Malibu it struck have been displayed at numerous museums, including the American Museum of Natural History.
Scientific analysis of the meteorite classified it as an H6 chondrite, with approximately twenty percent of its mass consisting of nickel-iron flakes.
The meteorite struck a red 1980 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Michelle Knapp, who had purchased the vehicle for 300 dollars before selling it for 25,000 dollars.
