Michigan Stadium, Sports stadium in Ann Arbor, United States.
Michigan Stadium is a venue for University of Michigan football games in Ann Arbor and holds more than 107,000 people. The facility has an open-ended bowl shape and sits mostly below ground level, with seating rising steeply upward.
The facility opened in October 1927 after workers dealt with complications from an underground spring. The venue expanded several times over the following decades to meet growing demand for seats.
Fans arrive in maize and blue clothing and gather for hours before games in parking lots surrounding the venue. These pregame rituals shape the rhythm of autumn weekends in Ann Arbor and define the city's atmosphere during the football season.
The main entrance on South Main Street leads to several gates with ramps for wheelchairs and strollers. On game days, plan to arrive at least one hour before kickoff to avoid lines at the gates.
About three quarters of the structure lies below ground because unstable soil required deep foundations. A construction crane remains buried beneath the foundation because workers could not remove it due to difficult ground conditions.

This collection gathers the largest stadiums on the planet, ranked by seating capacity. From the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, India, which hosts major cricket matches, to the vast American university arenas dedicated to football, and the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, these sports facilities demonstrate the scale that infrastructures for competitions and mass gatherings can reach. Each stadium has its own identity: some are exclusively dedicated to a specific sport, while others serve as flexible venues capable of hosting various events. Their sizes enable them to accommodate between 100,000 and over 150,000 spectators, providing organizers the opportunity to gather large crowds for international competitions, national finals, or major ceremonies.
