Bde Maka Ska, Glacial lake in Minneapolis, United States
The lake covers 401 acres with a maximum depth of 87 feet, connecting to Lake of the Isles, Cedar Lake, and Lake Harriet through channels.
From 1829 to 1839, a Dakota agricultural settlement called Ḣeyate Otuŋwe existed on the eastern shore of the lake, marking an important Native American presence.
The name change from Lake Calhoun to Bde Maka Ska in 2018 reflects the recognition of Dakota heritage and language in Minnesota.
Three beaches, fishing piers, boat rentals, and a 3.4-mile trail system provide multiple recreational options for visitors throughout the year.
The lake contains populations of tiger muskies, northern pike, and walleye, with specific fishing spots near the channel to Lake of the Isles.
