55 East Erie Street, High-rise building in River North, Chicago, United States.
55 East Erie Street is a 56-story residential tower in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, standing about 647 feet (197 meters) tall. The building has a white concrete and glass facade with floor-to-ceiling windows that face multiple directions.
The tower was completed in 2004 and briefly held the title of Chicago's tallest purely residential building. It was designed by Fujikawa Johnson & Associates during a period when River North was being developed more actively as a residential neighborhood.
The white exterior and stepped-back form make this tower a recognizable presence along the Erie Street corridor. Walking past it, you get a sense of how River North has shifted from a warehouse district into a neighborhood of galleries and high-end residential buildings.
The building stands at the corner of Erie Street and Rush Street in River North, an area that is easy to reach on foot from the Magnificent Mile. The best views of the exterior come from the sidewalk across the street or from the surrounding blocks.
Four of the building's units are designed as multi-story townhouses, each with a private elevator and direct roof access. Despite being inside a dense tower, these units are laid out more like standalone houses than typical apartments.
