Riverhead

Riverhead is the county seat of Suffolk County located on the eastern portion of Long Island, serving as the primary administrative center for the region. The town holds government offices, courthouses, and public services that handle official matters for residents across the entire county.

The area was originally inhabited by the Shinnecock and Montauk peoples before European settlement in the 1600s. It was officially separated from Southampton and incorporated as an independent town in 1792, eventually becoming the political center for the entire county.
