Maggie Valley, Mountain resort town in Haywood County, North Carolina, US.

Maggie Valley is a town in the Great Smoky Mountains at 2,500 feet elevation, where mountain ridges meet open valleys. The area is surrounded by dense forest that changes appearance with each season.

The town took its name from Maggie Mae Setzer when her father John Sidney Setzer opened the first post office in the early 1900s. This event marked the beginning of organized settlement in the valley.

The Wheels Through Time Museum displays rare American motorcycles and tells the story of mechanical craftsmanship developed across the country. You can see how motorcycles were designed and refined over many decades.

US Route 19 runs directly through the town and connects it easily to Asheville to the east and Cherokee to the west. This central location makes it straightforward to explore the surrounding region.

In nearby Cataloochee Valley, about 200 wild elk roam freely after being reintroduced to the region. This unusual wildlife presence offers visitors a rare chance to see these large animals in their natural setting.
