Sevierville, County seat in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States

Sevierville is the county seat of Sevier County in eastern Tennessee, located near Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The town spreads over flat and gently rolling terrain, with residential areas, commercial strips, and some older buildings around the courthouse square.

The settlement was established in 1795 and incorporated as a town in 1901, taking its name from John Sevier, a key figure in early Tennessee history. Before a proper courthouse was built in the late 18th century, court sessions were held in a makeshift stable.

The town honors John Sevier, an early frontiersman and first governor of Tennessee, whose influence remains visible in public buildings and street names today. Along the main roads, shops and restaurants serve both locals and travelers, creating a relaxed roadside atmosphere.

The town sits along several through roads and serves as a gateway for trips into the surrounding mountains. Parking is available along main streets and near public buildings.

The McMahan Indian Mound on the edge of town reveals remains of a pre-European settlement from between 1200 and 1500, inhabited by indigenous communities. The mound is one of the few archaeological sites in the area that remains accessible to visitors.
