Belle Meade

Belle Meade is an independent city in Davidson County, Tennessee, characterized by tree-lined streets, spacious residential properties, and manicured green spaces throughout the community. The area sits on gently elevated terrain and maintains its distinct residential character with carefully maintained neighborhoods.

John Harding established the original settlement in 1807 with a log cabin on 250 acres along the Natchez Trace route. The property later became a horse breeding estate, then underwent transformation in the mid-20th century when a land company developed it into the organized residential community that exists today.

The neighborhood takes its name from French words meaning "beautiful meadow," reflecting the pastoral landscape that first attracted settlers to this area generations ago. Today, the wide streets and large properties still preserve that open character, with residents maintaining gardens and green spaces that define the community's visual identity.

The area is easiest to explore by car, as the wide streets and street layout are designed for driving through the neighborhood. The best time to visit is during daylight hours when you can easily admire the tree-lined streets and residential architecture from the road.

The Belle Meade Plantation house, built in the 1820s, still stands and functions as a museum that visitors can tour to see the original estate's architectural style.
