Suamico is a village in Brown County, Wisconsin, located within the Green Bay metropolitan area. The community encompasses over 59 square miles (150 square kilometers), with about 23 square miles (60 square kilometers) of water.
The Wisconsin Legislature established Suamico in 1848 as an official settlement. The community remained a town for more than 150 years before being incorporated as a village in 2003.
The name Suamico comes from the Menominee word Oussuamigong, meaning beavers, showing the Native American roots of the area. This connection to the land's indigenous past remains woven into the community's identity today.
The community is served by two school districts: Howard-Suamico and Pulaski Community School District, with different areas falling under separate jurisdictions. Visitors should note that administrative boundaries may affect which facilities and services are available in different neighborhoods.
