Ravine Flyer II, Wooden roller coaster at Waldameer Park in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Ravine Flyer II is a wooden roller coaster at Waldameer Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, running through a hilly landscape and crossing a four-lane road on a bridge at one point along the track. The ride uses traditional wooden coaster cars and features a series of hills and drops that give it a rough, fast feel.
Waldameer Park operated an earlier wooden coaster called Ravine Flyer at this same site from 1922 until 1938, when it was taken down. The current ride opened in 2008 and carries the name Ravine Flyer II to mark that connection to the original.
The ride crosses over West Lake Road on a bridge, and riders can look straight down at the traffic below for a brief moment during the course. That crossing is what most visitors remember and talk about after they get off.
There are height and health requirements to ride, so it is worth checking those before you arrive at the park. Lines tend to get long during summer weekends, so riding earlier in the day usually means a shorter wait.
The bridge that carries the wooden track over West Lake Road is tall enough for full-size trucks to pass underneath without any restriction. This means the coaster and highway traffic run at the same time, completely independently of each other.
