Icahn Stadium, Track and field stadium in Randalls and Wards Islands, US
Icahn Stadium is a modern track and field facility on Randalls and Wards Islands featuring a 400-meter Mondo Super X Performance running surface. The venue seats approximately 5,000 spectators with covered seating, underground locker rooms, and dedicated training areas for athletes.
The facility replaced Downing Stadium, which hosted the 1936 U.S. Olympic Trials and made history by broadcasting the first televised college football game in 1939. This succession marked a transition from the earlier venue to a new generation of athletic infrastructure.
The Jesse Owens Track & Field Program teaches young athletes between 8 and 14 years old the fundamentals of running and fitness. The program runs during autumn and spring, making the facility a community hub for youth development in track and field.
The facility operates with powerful lighting systems that support evening and night events, making it accessible for various schedule preferences. Visitor amenities are distributed across multiple levels, with concession areas on the upper concourse for easy access.
Usain Bolt set a world record of 9.72 seconds in the 100-meter sprint during the 2008 Reebok Grand Prix held at this track. This achievement reflects the high caliber of international competition that takes place here.
