Cookeville is a county seat in Putnam County on the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Knoxville in Tennessee. The town sits at an elevation of 1,150 feet (350 meters) and serves as a starting point for several natural parks in the area.
The settlement received its name from Major Richard F. Cooke in 1854 when it was designated the seat of Putnam County. The formal incorporation followed later in 1903.
