Cummins Falls

Cummins Falls is a waterfall in Jackson County, Tennessee, where the Blackburn Fork River drops over a rocky cliff and forms a natural pool below. The water falls in two stages, creating areas of different depths that spread across the gorge.

A family held this area in private ownership from 1825 until a public foundation purchased it in 2011. Tennessee then established a park here, opening access for visitors.

The name comes from a family that owned this land until recent years, whose story now continues through public use. On warm days, locals come here to swim in the clear water and explore shallow spots with children.

Access to the pool below the waterfall requires a permit that can be requested online in advance to manage visitor numbers. The hike down to the base involves uneven terrain with rocks and requires sturdy shoes.

The two stages of the drop divide the current so that calmer zones form next to fast-moving sections. Visitors can choose different areas for swimming or watching, depending on the season and water level.
