Riverbank State Park

Riverbank State Park is a public park that stretches from 137th to 145th Street and sits about 69 feet above the Hudson River in Upper Manhattan. The grounds feature an Olympic-size pool, skating rink, tennis courts, and an athletic complex available to visitors of all ages.

The park opened in 1993 and was renamed in 2017 to honor Assembly member Denny Farrell, who served the community. Its creation was part of a broader effort to revitalize waterfront areas in Harlem during that period.

The park incorporates Japanese rooftop architectural elements that shape its visual character and create a distinctive setting for visitors. Community performances and events take place regularly, making this space a gathering point for the neighborhood.

The grounds are open daily from 6 AM to 11 PM and offer various facilities for different activities. Most areas are easily accessible, and there are opportunities to exercise or simply spend time outdoors.

The park sits directly above a wastewater treatment facility that processes massive volumes of sewage daily. This unexpected location demonstrates how urban infrastructure and recreational spaces can coexist in densely populated cities.
