Aaron Davis Hall, Arts centre in Harlem, Manhattan, US.
Aaron Davis Hall is an arts center in Harlem that houses three performance spaces of varying sizes and functions. The facility includes a 750-seat main theater, a flexible mid-sized space with up to 265 seats, and a smaller 75-seat studio classroom designed for intimate performances and instruction.
Construction began in 1974 as a City College initiative that cost 5.3 million dollars to complete. The center was originally established under the name Leonard Davis Center before taking on its current identity.
The venue is named after Aaron Davis, a figure who shaped the cultural landscape of Harlem through his work in the arts. Visitors encounter a wide range of performances here, from classical music and jazz to dance, theater, and literary events that reflect the neighborhood's artistic traditions.
The center sits at 138 Convent Avenue near West 135th Street and is easily reachable by subway via the 135th Street-St Nicholas Avenue station. Plan to visit at times when performances or exhibitions are scheduled to make the most of your time here.
The building houses specialized workshops for set design and costume construction that serve both students and working artists. These behind-the-scenes spaces offer visitors a rare glimpse into how stage productions come together.
