Old Broadway Synagogue
Old Broadway Synagogue, Orthodox synagogue in Manhattanville, US.
The Old Broadway Synagogue is a two-story building with vernacular architecture at 15 Old Broadway in Manhattanville. The restored stained glass windows above the entrance display intricate designs that define the building's appearance.
The congregation was founded in 1911 by Russian and Polish immigrants, and the building itself was constructed in 1923 by the architectural firm Meisner & Uffner. After decades of use, the structure showed wear until it underwent major restoration in the early 2000s.
The name refers to its location on Old Broadway, and the interior spaces show how the congregation has maintained their faith practices to this day. You can observe people gathering for prayer and using the spaces to live out their religious tradition.
The building is located in Manhattanville at an easily accessible spot with nearby subway stations. Visitors should know that regular services take place, so it is wise to check hours in advance.
The stained glass windows were painstakingly recreated in the 2000s using historical photographs from 1923 as reference guides. This detailed reconstruction was only possible because old images of the original design had been preserved.
