Sakura Park, Japanese garden in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, US.
Sakura Park is a 2.5-acre space in Morningside Heights with curved pathways lined with mature linden trees. These paths form a geometric pattern around a central lawn planted with cherry trees.
The site was originally called Claremont Park before receiving approximately 2,500 cherry trees in 1912 from Japanese residents of New York. This gift prompted the change to its current name.
The stone lantern at the park's center, gifted by Tokyo in 1960, marks the sister-city bond between New York and Tokyo. This monument remains a visible symbol of the ongoing connection between the two cities.
The site sits along West 122nd Street between Riverside Church and Grant's Tomb. Visitors can find benches, walking paths, and open spaces throughout.
In spring, pink and white cherry blossoms form a continuous canopy above the geometric paths. The bloom sequence starts with snowdrops and continues with tulips appearing later.
