Map Room, Map Room in White House

The Map Room is a room on the ground floor of the White House, used primarily as a situation room and for small ceremonial events.

During World War II, Franklin Roosevelt converted this space into a situation room where war strategy was planned.

It was in this room that Bill Clinton made his grand jury testimony in the Monica Lewinsky scandal via video conference.

Today, it serves as a reception room for the president's guests prior to larger meetings elsewhere in the residence.

It has been renovated by many presidents, with Truman adding a doorway in place of a dropped ceiling.

Location: Washington, D.C.
