Chequamegon Bay, Natural bay in Wisconsin, United States.

Chequamegon Bay is a sheltered inlet along Lake Superior's southern shore, protected by Long Island and Chequamegon Point from the larger lake's open waters. The bay contains multiple boat launches and access areas that serve fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and other water-based activities.

French fur traders established the first European settlement on the bay's west shore in 1658, bringing new trade activities to the region. This early European presence gradually shaped commercial patterns in the area over the following centuries.

The name comes from the Ojibwe word Chequamegon, which refers to a sand bar place, reflecting the bay's geography and its importance to Indigenous peoples. Fishing traditions remain visible today through the active harbor communities around its shore.

The bay is accessible from several towns around its shore, with boat launches and docks distributed throughout the area. Water conditions are most favorable during warmer months when the bay is free of ice, making this the best time for boating and fishing activities.

The bay serves as a migration corridor for numerous bird species, including bald eagles, ospreys, and various waterfowl that rely on its protected waters. This concentration of avian visitors makes it a notable spot for bird watching during seasonal migrations.
