Larkin Administration Building, Office building in Buffalo, United States
The Larkin Administration Building was a five-story office structure with a central courtyard and a skylit atrium rising 76 feet tall. Thick balconies surrounded the atrium to provide additional workspace for employees.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed this administration building for the Larkin Soap Company and completed it in 1903. It was one of the first modern office buildings in the United States.
Inscriptions throughout the interior promoted hard work and cooperation, showing how much the company valued its employees' growth. These messages were visible everywhere and shaped the feeling of the workspace.
The building featured advanced systems unusual for its time, including built-in furniture, glass doors, air conditioning, and radiant heating. These technical innovations made it a comfortable place to work.
Although it stood for only 47 years, the building was demolished in 1950 and the site became a parking lot. The fate of this Wright masterpiece shows how quickly even important structures can disappear.
