The Royal River flows through this New England town, situated 12 miles north of Portland with 13 square miles of land and 9 square miles of water.
From 1818 to 1870, the town operated as a major shipbuilding center, with local shipyards producing close to 300 vessels during this period.
The Yarmouth Clam Festival brings 80,000 visitors each year for three days of food, parades, contests, and community celebrations.
The town maintains four public schools, including William H. Rowe School, Yarmouth Elementary, Frank H. Harrison Middle School, and Yarmouth High School.
Multiple mills established since the 17th century line the Royal River, using the natural waterfalls for power generation.
